Glass Harbour · Chapter III
The fog has swallowed the last bridge. Mara presses a weathered brass compass into your hand.
Mara watches the fog swallow the bridge, then closes your fingers around the compass. The brass is still warm from her palm. For once, her voice loses its practiced distance.
“Keep it. If the fog closes in again, follow north. I’ll know you made it out.”
I fasten it inside my coat. “I’ll bring it back to you.”
In Chapter III, Mara decides to trust you.
